You Hear God's Voice: Learning to Tune In
Believe and Become Podcast – Episode 8 Recap
Ever wonder if you’re actually hearing God—or if it’s just…you? Here’s the good news: if you’re in Jesus, you already hear His voice. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice” (John 10:27). The Holy Spirit lives inside you, and He loves to lead you—daily, practically, kindly.
In this episode of Believe & Become, we unpack simple, real-life ways to recognize God’s voice, what Scripture says about it, and how to respond with confidence—no woo, no weird, just presence, peace, and practice.
A quick word over you (Isaiah 54:2)
We sense the Lord is enlarging your tent pegs—expanding your territory and influence. Partner with Him: stretch wide, don’t hold back, and strengthen your stakes. Get your journal ready and record what He’s saying. His voice carries dunamis—the explosive power of the Holy Spirit—to do what He calls you to do (Acts 1:8).
What the Bible says about hearing God
You were made for this: “My sheep hear my voice.” (John 10:27)
Daily bread is a daily word: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word (rhema) that proceeds…”(Matt. 4:4)
Rhema = God’s spoken/revealed word to your heart—never contradicting Scripture (logos), always aligned with His character.
Abide & hear: As you stay close to Jesus, His words abide in you (John 15:7).
Peace is a signpost: God’s voice brings clarity, courage, and peace—not fear or condemnation.
So…what does His voice “sound” like?
Often: a kinder, gentler, wiser version of your own inner voice. He also speaks through:
Thoughts/whispers that carry peace or courage
Scripture suddenly “lighting up”
Knowing (you just know that you know)
Feeling (peace, love, compassion)
Seeing (pictures/visions) & dreams
Creation, music, and people (timely encouragement or confirmation)
Tip: He’s always speaking. If you don’t catch it in the moment, stay open—He loves to confirm.
How to tune in (simple habits that work)
Set the atmosphere: Worship, slow your breathing, invite Holy Spirit.
Ask & expect: “Holy Spirit, what are You saying to me today?” Then be still.
Write it down: Date it. Patterns will emerge.
Stay fed: Scripture, godly teaching, life-giving community. What you feed grows.
Check the fruit: Does it lead to peace, hope, and love—and match the Bible?
How to test what you heard
Scripture alignment: God won’t contradict His Word.
Character alignment: Is it consistent with who Jesus is—kind, truthful, merciful?
Peace test: Direction may stretch you, but it won’t shame you.
Wise counsel: Run big decisions by mature believers who believe God still speaks.
Small risks: Obey the nudge in low-stakes ways (text a friend, pray, encourage). Track the outcomes.
Five-minute activation (try this today)
Breathe + invite: “Holy Spirit, I love You. I’m listening.”
Ask one question: “What do You want me to know today?”
Listen 60–90 seconds: Write the first kind, wise thought you sense.
Ask for Scripture: “Show me a verse to confirm this.” Note it down.
One step of obedience: What’s the smallest way to respond today?
A simple declaration
“I am His sheep; I hear His voice. The Holy Spirit empowers me to recognize and follow Jesus’ leading with peace, clarity, and courage.”
Top 3 Takeaways
You already hear God. The question isn’t if, but how He’s speaking right now.
His voice carries power. What He speaks, He empowers—dunamis for the impossible.
Test & practice. Align with Scripture, look for peace, seek wise counsel, and take small obedient steps.
